Loading Dock Rules

  • Always check for moving vehicles before entering the dock area
  • Stay clear of dock edges and use designated walkways
  • Never walk under elevated loads or forklifts
  • Maintain three points of contact when climbing on/off trucks
  • Report any damaged dock equipment immediately
  • Keep dock areas clear of debris and obstructions

PPE Requirements

  • Hard hats must be worn in all loading dock areas
  • Steel-toed boots are mandatory for all lumpers
  • High-visibility vests required when working near vehicles
  • Safety glasses must be worn when handling materials
  • Work gloves required for all manual handling tasks
  • Hearing protection required in high-noise areas

Equipment Operation

  • Only operate equipment you are certified and trained for
  • Perform pre-use inspections on all equipment
  • Never exceed equipment weight limits
  • Use proper hand signals when working with equipment operators
  • Report any equipment malfunctions immediately
  • Keep hands and body clear of pinch points

Emergency Procedures

  • Know the location of emergency exits and assembly points
  • Report all injuries immediately, no matter how minor
  • Know where first aid kits and fire extinguishers are located
  • In case of fire, evacuate immediately and call 911
  • For medical emergencies, call 911 and notify site supervisor
  • Do not attempt to move seriously injured persons

Hazard Communication

  • Read and understand all warning labels and signs
  • Never remove or deface safety signs or labels
  • Report any unmarked hazardous materials immediately
  • Understand SDS (Safety Data Sheet) information for materials
  • Use appropriate PPE when working with chemicals
  • Follow all posted site-specific safety requirements

Weather Safety

  • Stay hydrated during hot weather conditions
  • Take breaks in shaded or air-conditioned areas when needed
  • Watch for signs of heat exhaustion in yourself and coworkers
  • Use caution on wet or icy surfaces during inclement weather
  • Seek shelter during severe weather warnings
  • Report unsafe weather conditions to site supervisor
